UCLA Contemporary Jazz Large Ensemble Spring Concert

Spring Festival of World Music and Jazz featuring the UCLA Jazz Orchestra, directed by Charley Harrison; the UCLA LatinJazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Bobby Rodriguez; and the UCLA Contemporary Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kenny Burrell and James Newton

All performances will be held in Roy O Disney Concert Hall at CalArts, in Valencia, CA, except “Backyard Listening,” in Eagle Rock, CA.
Dog Star Orchestra presents a breathtaking collection of contemporary and classic experimental repertoire. Now in its fifth year, nearly 40 musicians and music lovers will be participating in this year’s events. Many of the 48 scheduled works have rarely, if ever been performed or recorded. Highlights include a 6+ hour rendition of La Monte Young’s Composition 1960 No. 7, performed simultaneously with works by Pisaro and Tenney, and selections from Yoko Ono’s Grapefruit events for orchestra and Morton Feldman’s gorgeous piano repertoire.

UCLA Contempo Flux Chamber Music Marathon
Thursday, 06/04/09, 7-10pm

Jan Popper Theater, Schoenberg Music Building, UCLA Campus
Under the direction of Gloria Cheng, the group will perform works by Daugherty, Kurtag, Carlson, Harbison, Mustonen, Stravinsky, Lefkowitz, Walton, Brouwer, Kessner, Carter, & Andriessen.

Fri 6/19 Newman Concert Hall. Works by: Bergamo, Wallace, Crockett, Bartz, Hartke, LeBaron
