Entertainment Studies & Performing Arts at UCLA Extension offers dynamic professional training in the art and business of entertainment. Our courses are designed for people who want a “real world” education combined with the integrity and quality of a curriculum approved by the UCLA Academic Senate. In addition to networking and internship opportunities and the deep industry experience of our instructors, UCLA Extension’s ability to respond quickly to changes in technology and the marketplace keep our students on the crest of what’s current. Students may choose from a single course or a full certificate program.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How much does it cost?
UCLA Extension courses are “pay as you go,” with no large fees or deposits upfront. Complete certificate program tuition ranges from $5,000 to $14,000, well below comparable programs, and require a $200 candidacy fee.

2. How long does it take to complete a certificate?
Students complete their studies at their own pace and can enroll in as many or as few courses as meet their needs. Those who wish to pursue certificate programs can complete their studies in as little as nine months or take up to three years.

3. When do classes take place?
UCLA Extension offers classes year around on a 12-week “quarter system.” Designed to accommodate the schedules of busy adults, our courses are primarily held in the evenings and on weekends.

4. Where do classes take place?
Although most courses are held in Westwood and on the UCLA campus, there are a handful of classes that take place in professional studios.

5. Can anyone take classes?
YES! The 3 UCLA Extension music certificates are open admission – no degrees or prior training required (except for the Certificate in Film Scoring).
